Our Interfaith Sukkah Festival has CHANGED LOCATIONS and now will be held at the Jewish Community House – Sunday, September 29, 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM..

CANCELLED – The Peckman’s regret that due to the weather, it’s just not possible for them to host the “Sukkot Nosh” at their home.

This is not a school event – this is a congregational and interfaith outreach event – there is no charge for this event.

Sukkot is not a kid’s holiday – it’s for all of us. Come meet our neighbors and enjoy yourselves as we get ready to celebrate Sukkot and also kick off our domestic violence awareness and prevention programming.

Here’s what to do right now, please:

E-mail or call Gail Peckman to verify what you’re bringing as a side dish and/or dessert. Since (a) the menu has changed from BBQ to pizza, there is no problem with bringing items that have dairy plus you might want to change a side dish that “goes better” with pizza, and (b) there will no longer be a “nosh” at the Peckman’s later on, you might bring the dish you signed up for their house to the Interfaith Sukkah as well. Here’s what to bring on Sunday

(besides your food contributions and power drills) – contributions for New Hope, our regional domestic violence service provider and partner in a year long special effort for domestic violence awareness and prevention, especially teen dating violence awareness.

Basic client wish list from New Hope: toiletries, diapers, new clothing for women/kids (socks, pj’s, robes), cash donations and also non-perishable food

Here’s the plan for Sunday, September 30, 2012

9:30 – 11:30 AM

– Religious School as usual.

9:30 – 11:30 AM

– Gentlemen, start your power drills!! The sukkah is in the social hall waiting to be assembled. While it’s not a two-hour job necessarily, this time frame will give everyone a chance to pitch in and help without any pressure. The sukkah will be erected on the front lawn of the community house in the open space next to the sign (we can’t do it on the side lawn because the tall, dead trees are being removed today or Monday).

11:30 AM – 12:00 Noon

– Everyone, including our neighbors from St. Thomas Episcopal Church, will work to decorate the sukkah. We’ll gather in the social hall – be social – and get busy. The driveway will be blocked and there will be supervision at the sukkah so that everyone can work inside and then safely take decorations out to the front lawn.

We’ve invited members of Pilgrim Congregational Church and folks from SEMA-VAV (Southeastern Massachusetts Voices Against Violence) to join us as well for the morning.

12:00 Noon

– Blessings in the Sukkah – we’re calling our sukkah a “Sukkat Shalom” (shelter of peace) and also a “Shalom Bayit” (peace in the home) in recognition of October being Domestic Violence Awareness month. You’ll have a chance to practice shaking the lulav (we have three) and etrog as well as the special blessings for dwelling in a sukkah.

12:15 – 12:45 PM

– Pizza lunch (Dominos and Papa Gino’s) plus lots of great side dishes and desserts, music from our new guitarist Nic Estrela, and general social fun!! in the social hall.

12:45 – 1:00 PM

– All hands on deck – clean up, pack up and head home.
