Returning each fall for over a decade, Cantor Margaret Burton brings her talented vocal skills from Minneapolis to Taunton, joining Rabbi/Cantor Heath in leading Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services. She not only sings beautifully, she also chants Torah and blows shofar. She instructs our children in this ancient art, inviting them to join her from out balcony to form a shofar choir at the end of services.
Cantor Burton has been active in Jewish music (and many other musical endeavors) in Minneapolis for over 30 years. She plays multiple wind instruments as well as the piano. She arranges music for small musical ensembles. She has served as soloist in several synagogues in the greater Minneapolis. She has taught for many years at the Talmud Torah of St Paul. Her young voice students regularly appear in musical performances of various types throughout Minnesota and beyond.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, she has performed with the Minnesota Opera, Dale Warland Singers, Morris Park Players, and the Gilbert & Sullivan Very Light Opera. She was featured in the role of the Cantor in “The Soul of Gershwin” at Park Square Theatre in 1999, 2011 and 2016. She regularly performs in John Philip Sousa ensembles throughout every summer.
