As the high holy days approach, Susan Goldman of Newton has written a wonderful article which appears in the Connections Magazine of the September 8, 2023 edition of The Boston Globe. In it she describes how her father was warmly received by our Congregation here in Taunton during Rosh Hashanah in 1944 after arriving at Taunton’s Camp Myles Standish just prior to embarking on his overseas trip with the army to join the allies fighting in Europe during World War II.
It also goes on to describe a reunion of sorts some 40 odd years later where Susan and her father returned to Congregation Agudath Achim in 1988 and met some of the women who served and welcomed him and fellow Jewish soldiers for a shared Rosh Hashanah meal in 1944.
All in all a wonderful article that you should take a few moments to read and helps to explain the community we all cherish so dearly here at Congregation Agudath Achim.
